DO THIS FIRST
Take back some control.
- 01
Use the app or site’s official account-recovery page. Type the address yourself instead of following a message link.
- 02
Secure the email account connected to it first. Change that password and turn on multifactor authentication.
- 03
Change reused passwords on every other account. Start with email, banking, school, and social accounts.
- 04
Review logged-in devices, recovery addresses, forwarding rules, and connected apps. Remove anything unfamiliar.
- 05
Tell friends not to trust recent messages, payment requests, or links from the compromised account.
FOR STUDENTS
No shame. Just the next move.
- Ask an adult for help before paying, uploading identification, or contacting a stranger who promises a fix.
- If someone used the account to hurt or threaten people, save evidence and tell a trusted adult.
- Being tricked does not make you stupid. Scams are designed to create panic and rush decisions.
FOR PARENTS
Contain first. Debrief later.
- Help with containment before consequences. The fastest path to honesty is knowing that asking for help will not trigger an explosion.
- Check payment methods, app-store purchases, and financial accounts if money or card details were connected.
- After recovery, use a password manager and save recovery codes somewhere offline.
