Link the parental-controls app
Install Nintendo Switch Parental Controls on the adult’s phone, sign in with the adult Nintendo Account, and follow the app instructions to register the console. Save the parental-control PIN.
Choose an age restriction
Start with a preset age level or customize the permitted game ratings. Whitelist a specific game only after reviewing its communication and user-content features.
Set play time and bedtime
Use the app to set daily play-time limits and a bedtime. Decide whether the console should only show an alarm or suspend software when time expires.
Restrict communication and user content
Review In-Game Communication with Others. Restrict messages, images, voice, and user-generated content globally or by game where Nintendo offers that choice.
Handle Switch 2 GameChat
For players under 16 or supervised accounts, review and approve chat contacts. Video chat requires an adult approval request. Check chat history and camera field-of-view information in the app.
Restrict purchases separately
Nintendo says eShop and Nintendo.com spending restrictions are managed through Nintendo Account settings, not only the console app. Configure those controls and remove stored payment methods if they are not needed.

- Most console restrictions apply to the whole system rather than one player.
- Purchase controls require separate Nintendo Account settings.
- Some games use their own account and chat systems, so review game-specific controls too.
