Connect through Family Center
The teen opens User Settings > Account > Family Center > My Family, then shows a QR code or copies an invite link. The adult opens Family Center, scans or follows the link, and sends the connection request. The teen must accept.
Review contact settings
Together, review friend-request sources, server direct messages, and message requests. Restrict who can reach the teen beyond people they already know.
Set sensitive-content handling
In Family Center, choose whether media flagged by Discord’s filters should be blurred or blocked. For a teen account, the guardian cannot change the setting to show flagged content.
Review data and ad personalization
Open the teen’s data and privacy settings in Family Center. Turn off optional use of activity and third-party data for personalization or sponsored content where available.
Add spending and downtime boundaries
Set a monthly spending cap and a screen-downtime schedule if those controls fit your family plan. Discord notes that some subscriptions are not covered by the cap.
Use activity as a conversation starter
Family Center shows recent connections, servers, calls, purchases, and activity summaries—not message contents. Ask about unfamiliar servers or people instead of treating the dashboard as a transcript.

- Family Center is opt-in; the teen must accept and can disconnect.
- It does not reveal message contents or let the adult remove friends or servers.
- Activity covers a limited recent period and begins after the connection is accepted.
